• Scholarship Opportunities

Houston Repertoire Ballet offers scholarships to promising HRB company members to attend summer intensive programs around the country and locally at Ballet Center of Houston.

  • The Daisy Rome Scholarship was created to honor the memory of HRB Founder Gilbert Rome’s mother. An intrepid spirit, Daisy believed in the dreams of young people and their right to pursue big dreams. Always encouraging and supportive, Daisy celebrated the accomplishments of young people willing to work to make their dreams come true.

Two merit-based scholarships of $1200 will be awarded this year to dance students that are attending workshops other than BCH’s summer intensive. The award will go directly to the summer intensive of the winner’s choice. Eligibility and selection are designed to identify serious dancers and encourage their growth.

Scholarship recipients will be chosen by an independent judge / master teacher selected by the HRB Artistic Director. Ms. Vittum may be consulted by the judge (if he/she chooses) to verify observations. In addition to dance talent, the applicant will be judged in the audition on:

    • Fitness
    • Attitude
    • Responsiveness to corrections
    • Ability to comprehend and execute dance vocabulary
    • Desire

  • The Kathy & Frank Newsom Scholarship is a merit scholarship of $650 to be paid towards the BCH summer intensive. Kathy & Frank Newsom were instrumental in the early years of Houston Repertoire Ballet. Their talents, skills, and energy played a critical part in the development of the organization. This scholarship was set up in their honor and memory in 2014.

    Two scholarships will be awarded.

Applicants must show not only a desire, but talent.
