    Come join Clara in her journey through the Land of Sweets for an enchanted afternoon of ballet story telling, dessert treats, and interactive movement with the Nutcracker characters.
  • This event is the collaboration of several of our alumnae who have a vision of not just Sugar Plums, but to bring the joy and delight of ballet to the children of our community!
     
    The soirée experience will include delicious sweet treats, a narration excerpt from The Nutcracker, an abridged Nutcracker performance from the HRB company members, interactive movement with the ballerinas, gorgeous decor, and a beautiful Land of Sweets ornament.
     
    From bakers to a vision of a sugar plum, our guests will have opportunity to take photos with Clara and her friends in several imaginative settings exclusive to the soirée including a snow globe bubble house!
     
    Child tickets will include the addition of an exclusively designed Land of Sweets wand and crown to enhance their journey through the magical realm.

    $40 - Children; $30 - Adults
    Tickets are limited.
    Tables will seat 12 guests and can be purchased as a whole if you wish to sit with a specific group.  Reserved tables will also have priority viewing of the soirée Nutcracker performance. 
    All other seating will be open seating and first come, first serve at the event.  Children must be accompanied by an adult. 
     
    For toddlers, age 1-2, a ticket must be purchased for them to get their own seat, plate, crown, and wand. 
    Young toddlers who are sitting in your lap and eating off your plate do not need their own ticket (but also wont have their own accessories).  Reservations are not refundable or exchangeable, but they can be transferred.
     
    All proceeds for the event serve as a fundraiser for the Houston Repertoire Ballet.
     


  • Professional Guest Storyteller!

    We are very excited to have Jacob Shideler as our storyteller for The Land of Sweets Soirée!

    Jacob is an accomplished, driven, creative arts leader and fierce advocate for inclusivity in, and accessibility to, the arts. With 13+ years of professional experience in the realm of entertainment, community connection, pedagogy, and non-profit performing arts leadership, Jacob strives to make the greatest impact on the communities in which he serves. Currently serving as the Associate Director of Engagement at Theatre Under The Stars (TUTS), Jacob has built an expansive career through varying creative capacities with iconic institutions such as The Walt Disney Company, Los Angeles Opera (LA Opera), TUTS, and The University of Houston. Jacob originally found a home at the intersection of entertainment and community impact as On-Air Talent for nationally broadcast radio station, Radio Disney, while concurrently serving as Tour Manager for LA Opera’s Education department. Rising in the ranks to become LA Opera’s Manager of Artistic Operations and Assistant Company Manager, Jacob took advantage of these roles to build on his artistic and leadership competencies in the non-profit performing arts space. Throughout his career, Jacob has served as an advisor, panelist, consultant and more to a number of non-profit arts-based organizations such as Concertia, Houston Public Media, Houston Cinema Arts Society, Texas Commission on the Arts, and Arts Connect. Jacob is passionate about helping to develop the next generation of arts leaders and artists thus implementing the inaugural Teen Apprentice program while simultaneously growing the college Summer Apprentice program at TUTS. As a Lecturer for film and narrative arts at The University of Houston, Jacob understands the importance of stories and works to ensure every student understands they deserve to be represented and have their voices heard. As an artist, Jacob has done it all from performer to producer. As a performer, Jacob has toured across Europe and the Continental US, most recently premiering a new translation of Hiller and Weisse’s, Die Jagd (2023). As a producer, Jacob has produced everything from film to podcasts -- producing a feature length movie musical, Life is Not a Musical, The Musical, along with multiple youth musical theatre and operatic productions such as Into The Woods, SpongeBob SquarePants, Head Over Heels, The White Bird of Poston, Figaro’s American Adventure, Brundibár, and the Tommy Tune Awards. Most recently serving as Interim Director for Education at TUTS, Jacob has had the honor of serving as Music Director for TUTS youth productions Into The Woods and Head Over Heels.
